The Transubstantiation series started with a performance piece of the same name. In this series, I make myself a crown with wire hangers by disassembling them and then twisting them on my head, which causes me pain. This action appears literally in video or live, or implied by the result, when in photographs. These works seek to manifest the embeddedness of the Catholic culture of martyrdom and self-humiliation in our everyday lives, camouflaged by our most mundane customs and habits.
