Humanitarian Crisis

Performance
Bubbly Creek Performance Art Assembly Chicago, United States 2019

This work was a continuation of my explorations of paths for empathy towards the condition of the Venezuelan diaspora originated by the humanitarian crisis caused by the Chavista dictatorship. In the performance, a truck parks in the gallery’s dock. The container opened revealing my presence there. I covered the floor with emergency blanket and then asked member of the audience to step in and help me knead corn flour, water and salt with the feet, making arepa dough. I taught them how to make arepas, which we grilled and then shared with everyone in the audience.
