Un metro por dinero

Performance
HORASperdidas
Monterrey, México. 2010

I placed myself in a public space with a tape measure, milk, a clock, parasol, and a sign saying “Give me a coin or bill and I’ll travel a meter”. As I received money, I travelled the corresponding meter and left a label as a trace, pointing how many meters I had travelled so far and at what time did I realize the travel. The action took a total of five hours, travelling 150 meters and gathering a total of 310,50 Mexican pesos and a few dollar cents. This performance reflected on a current Venezuelan social phenomena at the times when I did the performance, in which begging seemingly became a profession. In this case, and frequently without noticing, people paid me for doing performance, which was something exceptional in my country. The final destiny of the gathered money is to expose it as an artistic object.
