Memento Mori/ Vanitas

Performance/ Photography
Honourable Mention Salón Jóvenes con FIA XVI
Caracas, Venezuela
2013

In November 2012 I asked a tattoo artist to make me an inkless tattoo of the words Memento Mori and Vanitas in my chest and my back respectively. Then, I documented the process of healing. In this project, I sought to address the paradox of how as we heal (an act of life) we are closer to our own death. This contradiction is reflected in the ephemeral nature of the tattoos made in this performance, since generally, tattoos are supposed to be permanent.
